In spring 2009, I made this video to fulfill the service learning requirement for my Geography of Tourism class at Humboldt State University. I produced the video in collaboration with Democracy Unlimited of Humboldt County and the Healthy Humboldt Coalition. My production profiles the goals of these advocacy groups in regards to the General Plan Update for Humboldt County.
I made aesthetic and grammatical alterations to the script, but didn’t write it or crosscheck any of the research. The script was written by Jon Zaglin of Democracy Unlimited. I made the video on a professional basis and my connection to the collaborating groups was an employer/employee relationship. While I generally agree with what Healthy Humboldt and Democracy Unlimited had in mind for the General Plan, I don’t necessarily advocate all the stances taken by these organizations in the past and present or those that may be taken in the future. I acted as a freelancer performing a professional service.
This video features very little wildlife footage and focuses on community development. I don’t think it’s as engaging as my other productions, but it shows I’m capable of producing something other than wildlife documentaries.
